The Oldtown Photo Calendar Competition

October 5, 2008   11 AM to 3 PM

A century ago, the communities along the river near South Natick were famous as “Oldtown”, in the national bestseller Oldtown Folks by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The competition highlights both the “Oldtown” area and the work of local photographers, and serves as a fundraiser for local charitable groups, including this year the Bacon Free Library, Mass Audubon's Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary, The Eliot Church, The Morse Institute Library, The Eliot Montessori School, The Natick Community Organic Farm, The Natick Historical Society, The Center for Arts in Natick (TCAN), and the West Virginia Work Camp.

Photo Competition brings community together around appreciation for common heritage

Natick, MA—The Oldtown Photo Calendar Competition will be held this year on Sunday, October 5 from 11 AM – 3 PM at John Eliot Memorial Hall, 40 Eliot St. (Route 16) In Natick.

Last year, over 30 photographers entered the Oldtown Photo Calendar Competition (a dramatic increase over the previous year), and this year the show is once again expected to be a popular attraction, where visitors vote for their favorite photographs to be included in the next  Calendar.

“The mission of the Calendar,” said Faith Casler, a corporate sponsor, “goes beyond fundraising for local groups.  It provides a platform for passionate local photographers, and builds a sense of community and appreciation for the history of this wonderful place.”

The Photo Competition is part of the Oldtown Community Fall Fair.  With new events added each year, the Fair has grown increasingly popular.  The fair offers live music, food and baked goods, and an exciting range of family activities.  Local community groups, including the Natick Historical Society, the Center for Arts in Natick, the Natick Historical Society, The Natick Community Organic Farm, the Eliot Church, South Natick Neighbors & Newcomers, the Eliot Montessori School, and others will be on hand to talk with visitors.  Activities and events take place both inside the hall, and on the field in front of the Eliot Montessori School (inside the Montessori School gym if it’s raining).

The Community Fall Fair, organized by the Eliot Church, has been a South Natick tradition for many years. For further information, contact Tod Dimmick at (508) 785-2006, visit www.oldtowncalendar.org, or contact oldtowncalendar@verizon.net.
